|
| Event Details: The thrill of spectacular international motorsport will receive SABC3 coverage for those who cannot be at the grandstands circling the unique Durban street circuit on 22-24 February 2008. Of significant importance is that the South African race car, Vulindlela, whose powerful motion on the track has been captured on previous years’ events by SABC Outside Broadcast Facilities, carries two numbers: Tata Nelson Mandela’s prison number, 46664 and 2010, the year known in the global calendar as Soccer World Cup hosted by South Africa. It is therefore no coincidence that, as key role-players in the broadcast industry and foremost facility providers, we continue to facilitate this event, the 46664 concert, and we’ll be seen in action at he 2010 Football World Cup. In 2007, 27 camera positions were identified requiring 32km of cabling. This had to be installed whilst the Durban streets were still in use. Of course, we cannot forget the audio requirements with microphones mounted on the cameras. Commentary positions were created in temporary scaffolding towers. OB 3J was the master TV unit in which the race producer and director selected one of the 27 static, 4 roving, 8 in-car and the helicopter cameras. All the sound effects and commentary was mixed in the fully equipped Audio area. The output of OB 3J was supplied to all the licensed broadcasters worldwide of all the excitement and happenings of the A1 GP. In addition, Air Time supplied SABC Sport with a smaller unit in which they added the South African flavour. Using local presenters, many of the drivers, celebrities and officials were interviewed |
