| Event Details: Our crew was at Sun City to cover the Women’s World Cup of Golf which was scheduled to be hosted at Fancourt Country Club Estate in the Western Cape Province even this year, until a decision was taken to move the event around South Africa. The tournament was from the 18-20 January 2008. In South Africa, golf for women has become a source of national pride for various reasons: It has previously been a sport dominated by men; it contributes to the country’s economy through revenue generation; it bridges the gap between rich and poor by exposing the underprivileged young women to this world of sport, known to many and associated with the èlite. Women’s golf in the country is and will be a vehicle to empower women beyond the sport itself, but in other areas of social and economic growth. |
